Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make it an eventful transfer deadline day for them this summer by adding to their current squad. They are looking forward to bring in players who can provide them enough strength in the middle of the pitch to fend off opposition attack and keep maximum possession of the ball and are eyeing the Portuguese international Andre Gomes to take up the role of the enforcer, who is currently playing for the Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.
Considered to be one of the best young midfielders in a central role in the current situation, Gomes came into Nou Camp in the last term from fellow La Liga side Valencia and was poised to a have future with one of the best clubs in Europe. However, things did not work out the way it should have, with the Portuguese enforcer finding it difficult to cut a niche on a permanent basis in the Barcelona lineup and was seen nowhere near his form that he showed during the Euro Cup earlier that year for his national team.
Reportedly, the player has now been made available on loan by the Catalan club, as he is being treated as surplus to the side and is nowhere in the plans of the new coach Ernesto Valverde. This has irked interests from a number of top clubs from all over Europe including the likes of Italian champions Juventus and Premier League club West Ham United, with Tottenham also competing to bag the player for the new season.
The 24-year-old player has been one of the most highly regarded midfielders in the last few seasons and has been highly praised for his calm and composed presence in the middle of the field for his country as well as club. However, he failed to show glimpses of his abilities last season, which has eventually made him a liability for the Blaugrana, who are not finding him useful enough for their squad this season.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are finding it difficult to bog down their opposition players from raiding their goal in quick succession and are in search of a player like Gomes who can help them to get out of harm’s way. They are quite confident that the player might be a useful addition to their team and achieve something substantial in his first season in the Premier League, in case the player agrees to a switch to the North London club and help them in their pursuit of glory.
