West Bromwich Albion concluded their previous season in the Premier League in a pretty decent manner as they secured the 10th spot in the league table with 45 points to their name. Under the tutelage of Tony Pulis, the Baggies have indeed looked like a decent side and having created a fine pedestal for themselves the last term, they would be keen to make full use of the same in order to maraud forward in the right direction.
They have started their new season in a pretty handsome manner, securing wins against Bournemouth and Burnley and sharing points with Stoke City last weekend. Pulis has been absolutely spot on with respect to his recruitments this summer and has invested the cash in the right sectors. The likes of Oliver Burke, Jay Rodriguez and Gareth Barry have already been introduced at the Hawthorns and earlier today, services of Arsenal’s left-back Kieran Gibbs was also acquired to bolster their squad along with Krychowiak from PSG.
However, there has also been a worry emerging of late for Pulis, as their veteran central defender in the shape of Jonny Evans is believed to be a subject of interest of two Premier League heavyweights, as Arsenal and Manchester City have been keeping a close eye on the former Manchester United defender. With the summer transfer window to end on Thursday, West Bromwich Albion have put Lokomotiv Moscow’s centre-back Solomon Kvirkvelia on their radar as a potential replacement for Evans.
Kvirkvelia emerged through the youth ranks of Zenit Saint Petersburg and Rubin Kazan, and was eventually promoted to the senior side of the latter. During the January transfer window last season, he was shipped out on loan to Lokomotiv Moscow and earlier this summer, he was signed on a four-year contract by the Railroaders and has been very impressive in the Russian Premier League. But what will the Georgia international have on offer for Albion?
He is a tall and a physically tough defender of notable calibre and has plenty of experience under his belt. He is good in the air, makes shrewd tackles and interceptions and doesn’t refrain from getting into tight circumstances to save his employers from leaking goals. Besides, he reads the game well and has the requisite technical understanding of the game. Premier League has perennially been a lucrative destination and he would personally cherish the concept of plying his trade under the immense limelight which the English top flight offers.
