Premier League outfit Everton are looking all set to expand their attacking options further this summer and as per one of the latest reports, they have emerged as one of the English top division sides who are interested to prise Fernando Llorente out of the Liberty Stadium before the curtains of the summer transfer window fall.
Throughout the summer, the defending league champions Chelsea have been heavily linked with the Swansea City striker, but apparently, Everton have also joined the race to make him sign on the dotted line. The Toffees are a team in transition under the tutelage of Ronald Koeman but the good part is that the owners have fully backed him and the Dutchman has gone about shaping the squad to his liking.
Koeman seems to be a man with a purpose and having finished 7th in the league table with 61 points last season, it goes without saying that they would be keen to impose themselves as one of the serious challengers for bagging a Champions League spot, although the animosity in the English top division would be humungous once again.
Everton, however, haven’t had a splendid start to their new season as they have collected merely 4 points to their name after their 3 league outings, with their latest fixture ending in a 2-0 loss at the hands of Antonio Conte’s men at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Nonetheless, the league is in its initial stages and thus, they shouldn’t start to worry at this stroke of hour, for their new signings would take some time to get together as a unit.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen have already been lured to the Goodison Park this summer, and thus the quality in their ranks is unquestionable. However, with the transfer of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United earlier this summer, there does appear a need for Everton to sign a striker who has proven his worth in the Premier League.
So, Everton’s interest to sign someone like Llorente does make a lot of sense. The 32-year-old was roped in by the Swans last summer from Sevilla and he played a crucial role in ensuring that Swansea City refrain themselves from being relegated. The Spanish international banged 15 goals and created 24 chances last season in 33 appearances and his move to Everton would be a huge one to better the chances of Koeman’s men to push for a top-four finish.
