Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have suddenly become a superpower in the transfer market as they are now looking to sign some of the finest stars in Europe before the deadline day. They have finalized a stunning deal for their top transfer target in Naby Keita for the next season to solve the problems in their midfield.
But that is not the only issue in the squad at the moment. The Reds have one of the most impressive squads in attack in the Premier League but defensively, they are a different kettle of fish. They have kept two clean sheets in the first three games of the season with two different keepers but are never too far away from gifting their opponents an easy goal, like they did in the first weekend against Watford.
The German manager is desperate to solve the problem by spending on Dutch international Virgil van Dijk but has not been able to land the Southampton man yet, with his club rejecting to sell to Liverpool. The Reds are ready to meet his valuation and have decided not to look at alternatives for him, but with now, time running out, they are having to look elsewhere.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager now wants to fish in familiar territory and is now looking at the experienced Neven Subotic for a move this summer. According to reports from TMW, Liverpool are one of five clubs interested in the 28-year old for a move before the deadline day. The likes of Chelsea, Leicester City, Stoke City and West Brom are reportedly interested in his services. So should Liverpool go for him?
Previously linked with a move to the club in the last two summer transfer windows, the Serbian defender started his youth career with Mainz and after just a year in the senior side, he was picked up by Borussia Dortmund, where he took no time to establish himself in the first team.
A centre back by trait, Subotic is well known for his passing and ability to help his side set up chances from the back. He loves to have the ball at his feet but is equally strong in the air and his positioning, making him a hard player to beat.
He has 36 international appearances for his national side and 205 Bundesliga appearances to his name but spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Koln. He is an experienced and established international who worked well in tandem with Klopp and it will not come as a surprise if the Liverpool manager decides to go for him, if he misses out on Van Dijk, even later in the transfer window.
His previous connections with the player will make it easier for him to convince and make this deal happen but is Subotic an option for the current squad at Anfield?
