Chelsea have clawed their way back to winning ways in the Premier League, having won two consecutive matches against tough opponents like Tottenham Hotspur and Everton respectively. The defending champions are desperate to hold onto the title in the current season as well and are toiling hard in the summer transfer window to give their squad the right balance.
The Blues have already spent a considerable amount of cash in the transfer market and have brought in some top class players in the form of Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko to add to their strength. However, it is not looking ample to satisfy their Italian gaffer Antonio Conte, as the wily tactician is looking to add a few more new names to his roster.
The Chelsea coach is currently having his eyes fixed on the Serbian defender Neven Subotic and is looking to bring him into the side before the closure of the transfer window within the next few days. The centre back is presently playing for the German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and is considered to be one of the best defenders in German as well as European football.
28-year-old Subotic has been a part of the Borussia Dortmund lineup since his arrival at the club in 2008 and has spent almost a decade defending the Schwarzgelben goal with all his might and dedication. His big frame in the heart of the Dortmund defence is one of the most dreaded scenes for any attacker of the opposition team, which has helped him earn a reputation of one of the best centre backs in the business.
Chelsea, who are finding it difficult to contain the opposition strikers from breaking their defence and get the ball into the back of their net, are in dire need of a player like the Serbian defender who can stabilize their backline and fend off the rival strikers from scoring goals against them. The West London club are looking forward to making a bid for Subotic in order to get him out of the Westfalenstadion and land him at Stamford Bridge.
The defensive beast has, however, fallen out of favour in the last couple of seasons in Bundesliga and has featured only six times for his present team. The situation being this in Dortmund, it might be a wise decision for the Serbian international to head towards the Premier League and be a part of the Chelsea squad, who might also be benefitted by the inclusion of an experienced campaigner like him at the heart of their defence.
