Huddersfield Town appears to be a side which is undoubtedly in the process of inking something special under the stewardship of David Wagner. The Terriers carved a promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season after finishing fifth in the league table and they eventually defeated Reading in the final of the playoffs (which was settled after a penalty shootout) to get the uplift which they thoroughly deserved.
In the league which comprises of the elite clubs of the country, their prime target would be to refrain themselves from falling into the clutches of the relegation zone. In order to do the needful, it is riveting to see Huddersfield Town starting their season in an appealing manner, as they have already bagged 7 points from their first 3 league outings.
They won against Newcastle United and Crystal Palace and last weekend, they shared points with Southampton to keep their unbeaten run intact.
Wagner has been spot on with his tactics and his personnel on the pitch haven’t let him down so far. The 45-year-old manager has also been very shrewd in his recruitments during the summer transfer window and has added a veteran custodian in the shape of Robert Green from Leeds United on a one-year deal yesterday. They already accumulated some quality names like Tom Ince, Aaron Mooy, Zanka, Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre, and the introduction of Green at John Smith’s Stadium is also a galvanizing one.
Green has truckloads of experience of English football, including his familiarity with the Premier League and he plied his trade in the top division with Queens Park Rangers during the 2014-15 season.
He also represented Norwich City and West Ham United for a considerable period of time and is a former English international as well. Last season, he played a crucial role in Leeds United’s Championship campaign as he accumulated 45 appearances to his name and registered 15 clean sheets in the process.
Thomas Christiansen, however, had overlooked the 37-year-old shot-stopper as he has been comfortable using Felix Wiedwald between the sticks this season. The former QPR man has no dearth of his admirers and considering that Huddersfield Town would need someone with experience to navigate their players, Wagner’s latest acquisition makes perfect sense.
Besides, Green is still a valuable goalkeeper and given that he would really challenge Jonas Lossl for earning a place in Christiansen’s starting line-up would enhance the level of competition for good.
