It has been a busy few days at Anfield as Liverpool, who have failed to land their top transfer targets this summer, are now looking to make sure that their side is well equipped for the challenges that lie ahead this season. They are active in four different competitions and Jurgen Klopp, the manager at the club, is looking for players who can perform whenever called upon.
This has seen them linked with a number of exciting players in Europe for a move this summer and one player who is now extensively linked with a move to the club is Hoffenheim star Kerem Demirbay.
Reports from German newspaper Bild claim that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the player and are ready to make a move for him this summer. The story also reveals that the player has been made aware of the interests from England but that he is expected to stay back in Germany. He does have a release clause in his contract, so should Liverpool meet it?
Having played for Borussia Dortmund and Schalke in his youth career, the 24-year old started his senior career with Hamburger SV, but failed to establish himself in the squad, spending a couple of years out on loan. He impressed on his loan stints and was picked up by Hoffenheim last season, where he was in impressive form, helping his side to the UCL qualifiers, which they eventually lost to Liverpool.
A central midfielder by trait, Demirbay is a versatile player who can play anywhere along the midfield line. He is an attacking minded player who loves to have the ball at his feet to help him dictate the pace of the game. With great technical prowess and even better understanding of the game, he makes a number of interceptions in the final third and is more often than not, creative with the ball.
His passing and vision are right up there with the best while his dribbling only makes him much more dangerous. He has already made his international debut for Germany and is an established star, someone who will add quality to this Liverpool lineup.
The likes of Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho are expected to play roles as part of the midfield trio, with Jordan Henderson playing as the deepest of the midfielders. Demirbay can walk into any of the two places in front of the skipper and can add mettle and creativity to the squad from the bench.
At just 24, he is still learning the game and what better way than to learn it under one of the best managers in Europe in Klopp. So do you think Liverpool should land Demirbay this summer?
