Manchester City are the team to beat this season as they have made some excellent additions to an already strong squad, albeit by spending insane amounts of money this summer. They have started the season with two wins and a draw and will hope to build on to try and lift the title but Pep Guardiola is still looking for players who can add quality to his squad before the deadline day.
He is still linked with some exciting stars in Europe and Portuguese star Danilo Pereira is the latest name that is linked with a move to the Etihad. According to a story published by Portuguese news publication A Bola, Manchester City are now ready to fight with French giants PSG for his signature this summer.
The story claims that FC Porto are ready to off load him if his release clause of €60m is met by his potential suitors so should Pep splash the cash again?
A product of the Benfica youth academy, Pereira only made a name for himself with Maritimo, a top flight football club in Portugal. He was soon picked up by Porto in 2015 and ever since he has been an important part of the first team at the Estadio do Dragao, making 61 appearances to date. He also has 22 appearances for his national side and is an established star at the highest level.
A defensive midfielder by trait, Pereira is a strong and athletic midfielder who loves to act as the first line of defence for his side. He is full of energy and wins almost everything in the air while his understanding of the game allows him to make interceptions early, giving his side a chance to counter.
He can play through balls with perfection and can also hold up play in dangerous areas while his ability to blast forward every once in a while is a nightmare for the opposition defenders.
He can create chances from a deeper role but is more adept at shielding his back line and this balance in his game is what will attract Pep Guardiola. The manager has Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan and Yaya Toure for this role but Pereira is a more natural CDM than all three names and will surely improve this City squad.
He is composed in possession and can run the game against sides that sit back deep and adding him to the squad will also reduce the pressure on the backline, solving another problem at the club. But do you think City really need to splash another €60m on him this summer?
