Jurgen Klopp could not be happier with the UCL draw that his side Liverpool were given this year as they are now favourites to move into the knockout stage of the competition later this year. They can now focus on the domestic league, but before that, they have very little time in the transfer market to improve on their squad that will compete in those competitions.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita have eluded the club this summer but Klopp is now looking at alternatives to improve options in his squad. One such player that has been constantly linked with a move to the club recently is Barcelona star, Arda Turan.
The Turkish international made a name for himself with his exceptional performances for Atletico Madrid which earned him a move to Barcelona in 2015. He missed the first six months of that season, serving a transfer ban at Camp Nou but ever since Turan failed to establish himself.
He is also not expected to be in the plans of Ernesto Valverde this season and reports from Sport now claim that the Catalan giants have told the player that he is free to quit the club this summer.
Also wanted by Arsenal and Manchester United, Turan is a strong, creative midfielder, who has played most of his time at Atletico Madrid as a left-winger. Versatile and smart with his play, the 30-year old is a hard worker who is ready to put in the hard yards, something that will attract Klopp.
His hold up play and ability to create chances in the final third make him a dangerous player while his understanding of the game that helps him win the ball back early makes him that much more important to his side.
With 163 La Liga appearances, only 36 of which came at Camp Nou, 32 UCL appearances and 97 international appearances for Turkey, Turan is an established star, who is the skipper of his national side and is a player who will add some mettle, creativity, and more importantly some experience to this Liverpool midfield.
In the 4-3-3 system that is working well at Anfield, Turan can play as a part of the midfield three or even as a winger if needed. His dynamic approach to the game will allow Klopp to change systems in-between the game, a trait that has been effective with the front three. Even at 30, Turan is capable enough and Liverpool will need someone like him to go all the way in any of the four competitions this season.
