The summer transfer window has reached its busiest end and is on the verge of closing within the next few days. All the teams are looking for a last minute bargain and get their desired candidates into the side on the basis of priority. Watford are also no strangers to that as they are eyeing a new striker, who can help them keep their attacking intent intact in the forthcoming days.
Watford have looked in good form so far and have vied their way through the first two matches in the campaign in the Premier League so as to register a hard fought draw against Liverpool and a win in their second match against Bournemouth before another draw today against newcomers Brighton.
Their new boss Marco Silva, who took charge this summer has been trying to emphasize on the offensive aspect of the team and has landed a fine striker in the form of Andre Grey from fellow Premier League side Burnley. However, he is willing to add to the strike force and is eyeing another marksman in the form of Algerian international Islam Slimani, who is currently playing for the former Premier League champions Leicester City.
The 29-year-old arrived at the King Power Stadium in 2016 after the Foxes’ triumphant season in the Premier League to add to the firepower but has since been falling down the pecking order under the influence of his side’s main striker Jamie Vardy. This has made the Algerian international look for a club which might offer him regular starts in the forthcoming days, and Watford seem to fit his bill perfectly.
However, there might be a few more options open for him as well, as Newcastle United, who are currently struggling in their comeback season in the Premier League, are looking forward to adding to their firepower, and might be interested in signing the player within the remaining days of the summer transfer window.
Slimani has made only 31 appearances so far for the Foxes, which are far less for his liking and has scored ten goals to show for his efforts. He is a fine striker with superb shot making abilities from long as well as close range to find the back of the net and is raring to get more number of matches under his belt, which might be his reason to switch sides and make a move to Vicarage Road in case there is an opportunity.
