According to reports, Championship side Hull City are close to landing Watford striker Isaac Success on a season long loan as the Tigers eye numerous additions in the closing stages of the transfer market as the club lost players to injuries and to other clubs right at the end. The Nigerian international has failed to establish himself at Vicarage Road with manager Marco Silva excluding him from his immediate plans.
Hull City boss Leonid Slutsky has been very active in the transfer market as he faces an uphill task of plugging the voids in his depleted squad. The Tigers have already brought in Stephen Kingsley and Jon Toral in the last 48 hours and a striker is next on their priority list.
The Hull coach has reportedly made approaches for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan and Brentford’s playmaker Jota. The Tigers are expecting money in the bank following Sam Clucas’ sale to Swansea City this week. And Slutsky didn’t hide his transfer plans either.
He said, “We have three more loan options and for me, the level of the players is more important. Two matches ago we had five more players at an unbelievable level. (Sam Clucas, (Abel) Hernandez, (Fraizer) Campbell, (Markus) Henriksen and (Kevin) Stewart.”
However, the potential that Success could bring to the club is doubtful given his fruitless season in the Premier League since his move from La Liga side Granada CF last season for a record transfer of £12.5 million. Apart from some rare glimpses of brilliance, the 21-year-old has largely failed.
Success has managed to score just one goal in 19 appearances for the Hornets and seeing him as a replacement for the prolific Abel Hernandez would be a mistake. However, Slutsky believes he can bring out the best from the promising youngster.
An academy product of Nigeria’s BJ Foundation Academy, Success was taken up by Serie A side, Udinese, very young. His progress led him to go on a loan stint with La Liga side Granada CF in 2014 before the club decided to buy him. From Granada, it was Watford where he had little time under departed manager Walter Mazzarri. And he seems to have even lesser time under Silva who has used him just 45 minutes so far.
Hull had a poor start to their season where they have lost twice, won once and drawn one. And things went worse when they lost to League One side Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Cup. But in a much-needed change of fortunes, they claimed their 2nd victory last night as they defeated Bolton 4-0 and Slutsky would hope it is a sign of things to come.
