Bayern Munich have had a mixed start to their Bundesliga campaign this season. Their amazing first half was followed by an equally disappointing second half against Leverkusen. However, the Bavarians are in a good run of form nonetheless. Carlo Ancelotti’s men will look to continue their winning run when they visit Weserstadion to face Werder Bremen.
Recently, the record Champions were drawn with French heavyweights PSG, RSC Anderlecht and Scottish giants Celtic in their UCL group stage draw last night. Here’s the predicted lineup for Bayern Munich against Werder.
Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer is said to be back in training and could have a decent chance of starting against Werder. However, we expect Carlo Ancelotti, not to take any unnecessary risks, especially when deputy goalkeeper Sven Ulreich is doing so well.
Right Back: Joshua Kimmich will once again start as the right back, as the youngster continues to impress as the heir to Philipp Lahm. It will be interesting to see how he copes with Bremen’s dangerous wingers down the right-hand side.
Centre Back(R): Niklas Sule had a brilliant debut in Bayern colours last week, scoring a goal vs Leverkusen within the first half. We expect him to retain his place in the side, playing in the centre of the defence.
Centre Back(L): Partnering Sule, in defence, will be the experienced, Mats Hummels. The ex-Dortmund captain is now Bayern’s most valuable defensive asset following the injury troubles surrounding Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez.
Left Back: David Alaba is also expected to retain his spot as the left back. The Austrian wasn’t as impressive as his teammates were against Leverkusen, often struggling to resist Leverkusen in the second half. He needs a good performance to make up for that, if he wants to sustain his place in the starting lineup.
Central Defensive Midfield: Sebastian Rudy will once again act as the holding midfielder for Bayern, providing assurance for the back line whilst distributing the ball to all parts of the field. He is as important to Bayern, as Julian Weigl is to Dortmund. Therefore, expect him to be the midfield hub for Bayern in the weekend.
Central Midfield: New signing Corentin Tolisso had an amazing start to his life in the Bundesliga, scoring a goal inside the first half. Bayern fans will be hoping that their record signing can keep his fiery form intact for the rest of the season.
Central Midfield: Thomas Muller might make a comeback in the central role. He was deployed on the wings, in the last game, but he terribly failed to influence the game. Playing him in central positions could be a very good decision from Carlo Ancelotti.
Right Wing; Muller shifting to central midfield, will open the door for Arjen Robben to make his first start of the season. The Dutchman featured in the game against Leverkusen, as a substitute in the second half, replacing Muller but was unable to make a strong impact, other than his mazy runs.
Left Wing: Franck Ribery will probably retain his place in the starting lineup. The Frenchman has been very good in the pre-season preparations and also performed well against Leverkusen, despite being tightly marked by the opposition defenders.
Striker: Robert Lewandowski wasn’t able to make a mark in his first Bundesliga game this season but nonetheless, the Pole managed to score his first goal this season, converting a penalty in the second half. He will look to add more to his tally against a leaky Werder Bremen defence.
