Manchester United have made a perfect start to their Premier League campaign this season, keeping two clean sheets and taking maximum points from their two league games so far. They are back at home this weekend when they welcome former Premier League champions Leicester City this weekend in a crunch tie.
The Foxes are expected to sit back and wait for the counter while the onus will be on United to break down their defence. Both managers are expected to field their strongest sides for this game and there are a number of exciting matchups all around the field, which can decide the outcome of this game. Here are three such battles to look out for at Old Trafford this weekend:
Romelu Lukaku vs Harry Maguire:
The Belgian international has started his United career with a bang, bagging three goals in the first two games of the season. He will be the biggest threat in front of goal for the Foxes on the night and will not be easy to contain. He will be up against Leicester City’s newbie Harry Maguire, who faced the full wrath of the former Everton star last season. Maguire should make sure that he is not given any time on the ball in the box, else, he could severely damage them with every chance he gets.
Jamie Vardy vs Phil Jones:
The English striker has also been in decent form at the start of the new season and will once again be under pressure to score goals for Shakespeare’s side, who will want to make a statement this season.
They have shown that they can create chances regularly and if Vardy is given too many of them, he is sure to score. The responsibility of keeping him quiet will be on Phil Jones as Vardy is expected to avoid playing on the shoulder of Eric Baily on the night. Jones has to be at his best if United are to keep their visitors quiet.
Paul Pogba vs Wilfred Ndidi:
The biggest midfield battle so far for Pogba will come in this game against Leicester. Ndidi is a bundle of energy who will not allow the French star any time of the ball. Leicester City will look to hurry United up in possession in the final third and they will need Pogba to be at his creative best to score goals and win this game. If Ndidi can stop the supply from Pogba, the Foxes will immediately make United unsettled and weak, giving themselves an opportunity.
