This has been quite a busy summer for Borussia Dortmund youngster Emre Mor, with interest from a host of clubs throughout Europe. There hasn’t been any shortage of potential suitors for the Turkish International.
West Bromwich Albion might evolve as the latest club to be interested in the services of the former Nordsjaelland winger, who was one of the most sought after European talent just 12 months ago.
It’s needless to say that coach Tony Pulis will be looking for more attacking reinforcements as he looks to survive another season in the Premier League. And Emre Mor could be a very smart signing for the Baggies, especially with their lack of attacking creativity up front.
Tony Pulis’ men usually bank on set pieces’ as their main offensive outlet. Former Tottenham winger Nacer Chadli is their only creative spark in attack, whilst others lack the technical abilities to go forward. Jonathan McManaman, Matt Phillips, James McClean and Chris Brunt are all traditional wingers, who can get to the byline and provide a series of crosses for strongly built forward Salomon Rondon.
The Venezuelan International’s physical prowess and heading abilities serve as their focal point in terms of offensive productivity.
Emre Mor, however, will add a whole new dimension to the squad. The Turkish winger has some individual brilliance about him, as it is very obvious by looking at his dribbling qualities.
He has the ability to drift past opposition defenders at full pace, without having to rely on any further support. Meaning, if West Brom do tend to build their offensive system around Emre Mor, then they might just have to put less emphasis on quantity and can rather vouch for quality.
A valuable asset in Mor is his offensive versatility. He can play on both wings or even as a secondary striker. For Dortmund, he has played the role of a central attacking midfielder a lot of times.
At West Brom, he can be deployed in central midfield alongside Jake Livermore, who will be in a little deeper position supporting holding midfielder Gareth Barry. With two speedy wingers on either wing and the freedom of acting as a central attacking midfielder, Mor can unleash his talents and show that he’s more than what the critics call him.
If nurtured well, he can roam in opposition half spaces, similar to the role of Amine Harit at Schalke or Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City. He can hover around the opposition and find that telling pass to unlock the defence.
He is constantly improving on his final pass. Furthermore, Mor is a good set piece taker, just like all the other Turkish players, such as Hakan Calhanoglu, Selcuk Inan, Nuri Sahin etc.
Therefore, Emre Mor can prove to be a great acquisition for West Bromwich Albion. Despite his lack of experience in the top flight, the 19-year-old has godly talents, which one must not ignore and Tony Pulis might just be the one to explore his wealth of talent and make good use of it.
