Zlatan Ibrahimovic is edging closer towards a return to Manchester United. The 35-year-old arrived at the Old Trafford last summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain and led the Red Devils forward line with his magical instincts.
However, his dream run ended with a horrific knee injury which prematurely put a full stop to his Red Devils career. However, he kept in touch with United as he has been using the Red Devils’ facility, recuperating from his injury and according to reports the Red Devils are set to offer him a brand new contract.
A new contract has always been in the offing and despite his injury concerns, Jose Mourinho wants the player in his side. The Swedish international defied all odds as he emerged as United’s highest scorer last season.
However, the arrival of Romelu Lukaku has changed the equation completely. The Big Belgian has been leading the charge from the front and now has three goals from two matches in the Premier league already. United do have a pretty impressive contingent of forwards with the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in their sides and both had a joyful start to their Premier League campaign.
But irrespective of their current crop of players, Zlatan does have his influence in the dressing room. Players like Martial, Lingard and Rashford’s morale will be boosted by his addition and despite his age, he undoubtedly remains one of the most coveted forwards even today.
But he is expected to earn much less than his previous year’s wage which shouldn’t be a block in his much-awaited return to the Old Trafford once again. He has made a quicker-than-expected recovery and given his fitness, United iare likely to prepone the announcement of his return.
A number of clubs have been keeping tabs on his movement and he has been approached by a number few including the likes of La Galaxy and AC Milan. However, the presence of Jose Mourinho could work in a big way as the veteran forward could yet emerge as the next big signing for the Red Devils.
Shirts sales got a boost as Zlatan has was the largest contributor to United’s revenue last season and the Red Devils’ financial condition is set to ease out if he does arrive. Mourinho is also considering to offer the forward a player cum coach role to become a part of his coaching contingent. Can he lift the trophy this time round?
