West Bromwich Albion have had a good start to their Premier League campaign this season as they have won two games on the trot. Under the stewardship of Tony Pulis, the Baggies have clinched wins against Bournemouth and Burnley with a 1-0 score line in each of their first two encounters and look in a good shape at this stroke of hour.
However, despite the incoming of Jay Rodriguez and Yuning Zhang, Pulis is aiming to beef up his attacking arsenal further before the ongoing summer transfer window shuts down. The animosity of the Premier League would be humungous this time around as well and Pulis’ aspirations make perfect sense.
As per one of the latest reports by Daily Mail, Albion are interested to sign Lorient’s attacker Abdul Majeed Waris, who has a price tag of £12million slapped on his collar. However, West Ham United and Burnley are also very keen to make Waris sign on the dotted line, which implies that there would be a tug of war between the English top tier outfits.
Waris emerged through the youth ranks of Right to Dream Academy, Hartpury College and Nike Academy and then was acquired by BK Hacken wherein he scored 30 goals in 63 outings. His moves to Spartak Moscow and Trabzonspor didn’t yield substantial results, but the 25-year-old has been in a fine form for Lorient, having banged 21 goals in 58 games, after moving from Turkish side in the summer of 2015.
Impliedly, a player of his calibre would seek to ply his trade in an appealing league like the Premier League and this is where the Throstles come into the scenario. The Ghana international is a scintillating prospect and pace is unarguably his strongest suit. He breezes past defenders with relative ease, enumerates his touch of trickery time and again and has the requisite technical edge.
Waris is capable enough to be employed efficiently as a striker, although he is predominantly a winger and he has shown over the course of his career that he is indeed very clinical. Besides, he has a low centre of gravity, is an astute passer of the ball and his movements on and off the ball makes it too hard for his opposition to mark him.
With a move to the Hawthorns, Waris would be able to get more limelight which he rightfully deserves. West Bromwich Albion do have players up front to bury the chances created and bringing someone like Waris would ensure that there exists an adequate amount of supply into the box, apart from the goals he would be expected to score on regular basis.
