Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion made a winning start to their Premier League campaign as they managed to take all three points from their home game against Bournemouth in the first game of the season and then followed it up with another 3 points against Burnley. However, the manager has a few things to do to his squad before his side can challenge for a place in Europe next season.
The Baggies have a decent defensive lineup but are in danger of losing their skipper Jonny Evans this summer, who is wanted by a host of clubs in England. The former Manchester United man is now the senior defender at the club but and if he moves on, West Brom might be in trouble.
But Pulis is not giving up so soon and is now looking at a more than able replacement in Mamadou Sakho. According to the Sun, West Bromwich Albion are ready to make a concrete offer for the services of the French defender this summer.
Currently, a player registered for Liverpool, Sakho has not made a single appearance for the senior side at Anfield since April last year, when he was accused of drug-abuse. Though the charges were later lifted, his antics in pre-season before the start of the previous campaign saw Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager suspend him from the first team.
Sakho spent the first half of the previous season at Anfield before moving onto Crystal Palace on loan, where he put in some commendable performances in the second half of the season to save the Eagles from the drop.
A strong and dominating centre half with decent skills on the ball, Sakho is tailor-made for the English game and is easily one of the best defenders in England at the moment. He already has 151 Ligue 1 appearances, 64 Premier League appearances and 28 international appearances, making him an established star.
Manchester City are reportedly ready to make a £35m bid for Evans and if West Brom decide to replace him with Sakho, they will even end up with a profit. Liverpool are only asking for £30m which can also be negotiated with time running out and the 27-year old is probably the best possible available replacement for Evans this late in the transfer window.
At his age, Sakho will enter this season in his prime as a footballer and does not deserve to rot at Anfield. The fans of Liverpool also want him back playing for the club, which talks a lot about his quality. But is he right man for the Baggies?
