Manchester United made the perfect start to their Premier League campaign with a thumping win over West Ham United in their first game of the season and manager Jose Mourinho will be a happy man as two of his summer recruits played big roles in the victory. However, Mourinho is still not happy with the options at his disposal and is actively scouting for players who he can add to the squad before the deadline day.
This has seen him linked with a number of star players recently and one name that is now extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford is AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar. The French international is one of the most exciting youngsters on display in Europe at the moment and is a transfer target for fellow English outfit Arsenal.
And reports from the Sun now claim that the Red Devils are ready to make a £55m bid for his services, which might be enough to land him. So what will Lemar add to the squad at Old Trafford?
A product of the Caen Academy in France, Lemar started his senior career with the club in 2013 and just two years later, earned a place at the Stade Louis II, where he became an instant hit. He picked up nine goals and 11 assists last season as Monaco lifted the Ligue 1 title and has ever since been extensively linked with a move to the Premier League.
Having already made five senior appearances for the national side, the 21-year old, who now has 81 top flight appearances in Europe to add to the 12 Champions League caps is already an established player.
Known for his pace and ability to beat his man with ease, Lemar is a traditional winger with some unique threats. He is a set-piece specialist while is also adept at hold up play in the final third. He is a decent finisher in the final third and can also play as a wing-back, showing his versatility at the highest level.
The Red Devils are expected to use Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on the left-wing regularly this season but if Mourinho spends on Lemar, the Frenchman might just walk into the first team, adding genuine width in attack.
Lack of previous experience in England will be an issue but his style of play is perfect for the Premier League and Lemar will surely be a star for the future. But is he what United need at the moment?
