Hardly anyone would have thought Huddersfield Town would sit second in the league table after the first game week. But such is the nature of the Premier League that David Wagner could visit with his newly promoted side to Selhurst Park and emerge victorious against a side that has been plying their trade in the league for four years now.
The Terriers were dominant in their 3-0 thumping of the Eagles and more than anything it raises the expectations from them multiple times ahead of the next game against a known side, Newcastle United. The Mags didn’t have to worry much about beating them in the Championship last season, but the tables have turned this time.
Wagner would welcome Rafael Benitez’s side that is desperately looking to fill the void left by Paul Dummett, Florian Lejeune and Jonjo Shelvey owing to injuries and suspension respectively.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Huddersfield Town Line-up vs Newcastle United
Defence
The position under the bar will be taken by Danish international Jonas Lössl. The 28-year-old has been brought on loan from Bundesliga side Mainz this summer and he has been really confident in the opening game. Right from his early claim from the corner, the Danish looked calmed and his flying save to deny Palace a header cannot be overlooked.
The four-man defence is likely to remain the same with Chris Löwe and Tom Smith on the defensive flanks and Christopher Schindler taking the central defensive position alongside Zanka. The Danish international arriving from FC Copenhagen looked quite confident in his approach and is expected to defend deep with Schindler this time too.
Huddersfield still remains without the services of Jon Gorenc Stankovic and Martin Cranie at the back who are out with an anterior ligament injury and hip injury respectively.
Midfield
The two-man midfield should feature Aaron Mooy and Philip Billing. Mooy, Huddersfield Town’s player of the season last year, continued his brilliant form into this game as he registered an assist on the opening day.
The three-man attacking midfield is likely to remain the same as Wagner wouldn’t want to change his winning formula going into this game. The flanks will be taken by Tom Ince and Elias Kachunga. Ince has been an exciting buy for the Huddersfield Town but failed to create any such impression on the first day of the season. Apart from causing occasional problems, he remained largely erratic. The number 10 position will be taken by Kasey Palmer.
Attack
The sole striker spearheading the attack would be none other than Steve Mounié. For a £11.5 million signing, he is a complete striker for Wagner. Following his brace, he would fancy his chances in the second game too.
