Stoke City’s first match was nothing worth mentioning, as they lost the opening fixture of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign by 1-0 to Everton, with Wayne Rooney’s thumping header making the difference in the scoreline between the teams. The Potters are now looking for redemption and are busy bringing in players from other European clubs as well with Spanish forward Jese Rodriguez from Paris Saint Germain being their latest recruit to be brought in on a season-long loan.
The West Midlands club are eyeing some more players as well to boost the other areas in their team, especially the defence. Among a number of defenders from various other European clubs, the young Belgian centre back Bjorn Engels, who is currently playing for the Belgian outfit Club Brugge, has been targeted to be brought into the club as they are facing a number of woes in their defensive composition.
Engels has been one of the top draw defenders in the last season, who showed great courage in the backline for his club, keeping them safe from opponent attacks. The 22-year-old youngster is known to be nothing less than a rock in the defence for his club, where he arrived in 2013 and has gradually become an integral part of the side.
Defence has been a big problem for the Potters throughout the last season as it led them to end on the 13th position in the league table. However, the man in charge at the Bet365 Stadium, Mark Hughes, is trying to stabilise his defence this time around and has already brought in players like Bruno Martins Indi from FC Porto and Kurt Zouma on a loan deal from Chelsea during the ongoing summer transfer market.
The Belgian youngster can be the perfect addition to the lineup for the Potters, as they are eyeing glory this term and are willing to make complete use of the rest of the days before the closure of the transfer window, so that they don’t have to end up in a lowly position like the last season.
Though their first match was not indicative of their intentions, the Potters are looking to bounce back in their next clash in the Premier League against Arsenal, who are in tremendous form, having won their first encounter against former Premier League champions Leicester City in a hard fought match which saw the Gunners ending up as winners.
The 22-year-old is being considered to become one of the stars for his national team and Stoke City will like to capitalise on his talent in case he signs for them.
