Chelsea started their title defence in the worst possible way, having lost their first encounter at the hands of Burnley 3-2. To add to their worries, the Blues will be without their two mainstays in the squad in the form of captain and defensive rock Gary Cahill and wily midfielder Cesc Fabregas, both of whom received red cards in their first match of the new season at Stamford Bridge.
Next up for the reigning champions is a trip to Wembley, which is hosting the home matches of Tottenham Hotspur for the season. The Spurs have looked in good touch in their first match, having outplayed Newcastle United, who made a return to the Premier League after one season in the second tier, with a clinical performance to start the season with a 2-0 win.
They will look to continue that form as they meet Chelsea in a London derby this weekend, with the Blues looking to make their way back into the thick of things with a much-needed win. However, off the field, the West London club is looking to raid their neighbours from North London to bring in the English left back Danny Rose to strengthen their backline for the new season.
Rose has been one of the mainstays in the defence for the Spurs throughout his whole tenure with them. However, some injury concerns of late and also some problems with the team management over his current wage structure in the recent times have made him go down the pecking order, with fellow Englishman Ben Davies taking his place in the first team. This has reportedly made the 27-year-old player to consider a move out of the North London club, with Chelsea in the reckoning.
A total of 18 appearances was what Rose made for his current club in the last term, which is surely a problem from the left back’s perspective. Besides, Ben Davies now playing on a regular basis in the Tottenham lineup has become even more problematic for the player, as his inconsistent appearance for his club might take a toll on his international career as well, with the next World Cup starting within the span of a year.
Chelsea might be the right place for the England international in these circumstances, where a place in the first team might be in the offing. However, it is not going to be an easy task for the Blues to get their desired candidate, as Tottenham might deny listening to offers for Rose from any club in the Premier League.
