After a narrow 1-0 win against Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur entertain Liverpool at the White Hart Lane. Tottenham can temporarily go at the top of the table if they manage to eke out a win. The North Londoners had a lackluster first half against Everton and they struggled against Crystal Palace until late in the game and it will be interesting to them play against Liverpool who come after being beaten 2-0 by Burnley. Tottenham have failed to win any of the last six games which include 4 losses and 2 draws against the Merseysiders. Below is the predicted Tottenham lineup to start against the Merseyside club:
Goalkeeping
With Hugo Lloris still out with a hamstring injury, Michelle Vorm is set to start in goal for Spurs. The 32-year-old had little to do in the previous game against Crystal Palace but might have a busy day between the sticks against Liverpool.
Defence
The Belgian centre-back pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld will form the heart of the defence for Tottenham. Pochettino might have been tempted to play the more defensive option in Ben Davies ahead of Danny Rose but after the latter’s fantastic performances in both the games, he will surely start against the Reds as the left-back with Kyle Walker filling in the right-back spot.
Midfield
Eric Dier will start with Victor Wanyama forming the midfield pivot. Wanyama scored the lone Tottenham goal in the 85th minute to secure a win with a great header.
Up ahead, Christian and Erik Lamela will start on either side of the midfield. The former’s performances haven’t been up to the mark in the two games and will be under pressure with Dele Alli who managed to have a positive impact after coming on in the last game.
The gaffer has a selection headache of choosing between Alli and Janssen but I think he will probably opt for Janssen over Alli and see for one more game if it works. The other alternative is to drop Eriksen who hasn’t been really influential and play Alli ahead of him with Janssen keeping his place in the starting eleven.
Attack
Pochettino recently acknowledged his love for the two striker system, with Harry Kane in more of a holding role, playing as the fake number nine with Vincent Janssen up ahead to support. The duo have exchanged role in accordance with the requirement in the two games they have played.
