Peter Bosz registered his first win as Borussia Dortmund head coach as the Black and Yellows eased through their first-round hurdle in the DFB Pokal by beating sixth tier opponents Rielasingen 4:0. The visitors took their chance early on, as Marc Bartra tapped home a square ball from Jan-Niklas Beste. Dortmund then, doubled their lead just ten minutes before half time, when Pierre Emerick Aubameyang converted a penalty. Aubameyang also doubled his scoring tally, ten minutes after the restart, with a polished finish. The Gabonese International completed his hat-trick just ten minutes before the final whistle, to become the club’s leading foreign goalscorer, overtaking Swiss striker Stephane Chapuisat. Here are the Dortmund players rated in their comfortable win over Rielasingen.
Roman Burki(8/10): Didn’t have much to do, apart from making a great save from Benjamin Winterhalder in the 27th minute. He was confident throughout the game and preserved his clean sheet very well.
Lukasz Piszczek(7.5/10): Did well to help out the midfielders in the possession phases and also picked out some cheeky passes in the final third. However, one would expect better performances from the Polish International.
Sokratis(8/10): Lead from the back quite well, almost featuring as an auxiliary central defensive midfielder. The 28-year-old was very imposing defensively and implemented the offside trap very well along with his defensive partner Marc Bartra.
Marc Bartra(9/10): Showed his talent on and off the ball with some great decision making. Not only he kept the opposition attack at bay but also marched forward at regular intervals and played a major role in the build-up play. He was rewarded for his efforts early on, when he tapped home a square ball from Jan-Niklas Beste.
Jan-Niklas Beste(9/10): Making his professional debut, the 18-year-old marked this special occasion with a wonderful performance. Even though he failed to create much on the left flank, largely due to the futility of Andre Schurrle, Beste provided some beautiful cross field passes. Registered an assist when he received a long pass from Nuri Sahin and then played a square pass through the box, where Bartra was lurking.
Nuri Sahin(8.5/10): Was somehow much better than what he showed against Bayern Munich just a week ago. The Turkish International exemplified class in the middle of the pitch, often looking for the cutting-edge pass to break the shackles. He also used a series of long balls, to switch the play.
Gonzalo Castro(7.5/10): Wasn’t really helpful for the team, except for his initial movements which somehow kept the opposition midfielders busy marking, eventually creating space for the likes of Sahin and Co.
Mahmoud Dahoud(7.5/10): The new signing from Borussia M’gladbach, playing his second game for BVB, was decent. Despite not being able to provide an eye catching performance, the 21 year old was very important in the final third.
Andre Schurrle(6/10): It wasn’t really the day for the former Chelsea winger. Schurrle constantly failed to get past the Rielasingen defence, especially in the first half. His crosses were also kind of poor and clearly didn’t help BVB much.
Maximilian Philipp(7.5/10): Was given a starting berth due to the unavailability of Christian Pulisic, Mario Götze and Raphael Guerreiro. The ex-Freiburg man showed great versatility to play on the right flank, in the first place. Even though he wasn’t really able to make a serious impact in the first half, he started to be more influential as the game progressed.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang(9.5/10): Completely owned the poor Rielasingen defence with his expert trickery, sheer pace and killer finishing abilities. All of the qualities combined to help Auba score past three goals against the Freiburg based club. Became the club’s leading foreign goalscorer, scoring 124th goal whilst overtaking Swiss striker Stephane Chapuisat in the process.
Subs
Shinji Kagawa(7.5/10): Came on for an uninspiring Andre Schurrle in the second half. The Japanese had some good touches on the ball, and hovered dangerously around the edge of the box, often finding a key pass in the final third.
Alexander Isak(NA): Was subbed on later in the game in place of Nuri Sahin, as the coach looked for more goals. The young Swedish striker should have scored a goal, but he failed to keep control of the ball inside the penalty area.
Felix Passlack(NA): Was replaced by a tiring Maximilian Philipp right at the final phase of the game.
