Leicester City started their Premier League campaign this season with a defeat at the hands of Arsenal. Despite the loss, they made a match out of it and turned it into a nail biting contest, bowing out to the Gunners 3-4.
Their English striker Jamie Vardy sent shockwaves among the Arsenal fans by scoring twice to bring his side back into the contest. However, he surely lacked quality support from his teammates and the Foxes had to submit to the prowess of the Gunners in the end.
The man in charge at the King Power Stadium, Craig Shakespeare, elected to start with the Algerian playmaker Riyad Mahrez alongside Jamie Vardy in their opening Premier League fixture even though the player has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer. It was a brave statement-making move and Mahrez, being the professional he is, put in a determined display.
Among a number of names that have been linked with a move this summer to Leicester City, the one on the top of the list is that of the English midfielder Andros Townsend, who is currently playing for fellow Premier League outfit Crystal Palace. The player has been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League, but the Foxes look to be the favourites to bring him in the current situation.
The player has made a strong impression as an attacking midfielder throughout his career and has also represented his country at the international level. He has been a part of his current club since 2016 and is entitled to stay with the Eagles till 2021. However, that might not be a detriment for the Foxes to make a bid for the player in the ongoing transfer market.
The 26-year-old has played for an array of clubs in his career so far, from the Premier League as well as the Championship. A veteran of 93 matches for Tottenham Hotspur, the English attacker featured in 40 matches so far for Crystal Palace and has also played for Newcastle United as well as Leeds United.
His form at Selhurst Park has been nothing worth mentioning so far, with the attacker scoring only three times so far for his club, and there is a possibility that the club might let go of him this summer. The Foxes might look to grab the opportunity and get the player in their squad to replace Mahrez, in case the Algerian attacker looks to leave for the North London club.
