After a largely unimaginative display last season, Burnley got off to a flier as they put Chelsea to the sword in an all-action display helped on by the reckless Blues. An early red card for Cahill saw a clinical Burnley put 3 past Courtois before the half-time whistle and while Morata’s energy and freshness contributed to two goals, it was always a tall order for Chelsea to climb.
Burnley, who finished the last term in the 16th position in the Premier League, will be without their mainstay in attack, Andre Gray, who has made it out of the club to join their Premier League rivals Watford in the ongoing summer transfer window. This has, by all means, left the Clarets in dire straits and they are looking desperately for a good option to replace the English striker before the transfer window closes.
The man in charge at Turf Moor, Sean Dyche, has his eyes on the New Zealand ace Chris Wood, who is currently playing for the Championship side Leeds United, to be brought into the side to bolster his attack for the new season. The player has made a solid impression in the last season for the Elland Road club, having scored 27 goals for them, almost leading them into the Championship play-offs.
The 25-year-old has been one of the hottest properties in Championship football, having been tracked by a number of clubs not only from the Championship but also from the top flight. However, Leeds United are determined not to let go of their attacking spearhead and have been rejecting offers from both Championship rivals as well as Premier League clubs that are flowing in for Wood in the summer transfer window.
Reportedly, they have already rejected a bid of £12 million from the Clarets, as their new manager Thomas Christiansen is well aware of the fact that how much the player means to his side and is not willing to leave him in the transfer window, as it will surely weaken his club’s attacking options going into the new term.
However, Sean Dyche is not looking to give up on his pursuit of the New Zealand striker and is ready to make a revised bid of £15 million to bag him for the new season, as he is well aware of the fact that going into the campaign without a top class striker can spell disaster for him and his team.
