Aston Villa have started their new season in the Championship with a draw against Hull City, the new entrants in the second tier after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the last season. They are hoping that they can get better results out of their matches this term, making it one of the best seasons for them in the Championship.
However, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce, who made it possible for them to crack one of the biggest deals in their history by getting the legendary defender John Terry in their side in the summer transfer window, after the latter announced his departure from the Premier League champion side Chelsea in the last season, has been sceptical about his attack and is looking forward to bring in players who can help to strengthen his strike force for the new season.
One such player who has been eyed by a number of clubs in the Championship to be included in their roster for this season is the Scottish international Jordan Rhodes, who is currently a part of the Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for the new season. Though the player has joined the Owls on a permanent basis after spending the latter half of the season on a five-month long loan session, it is possible that the player can make a move to another club till the summer transfer market is on.
The former Middlesbrough man, who did not have a very good last term with both Boro and the Owls, has been one of the top strikers in the Championship and has played for a number of clubs in the second tier.
He has an incredible record of featuring in 169 matches for Blackburn Rovers and in another 147 outings for the now Premier League side Huddersfield Town and has scored respectively 84 and 86 goals for them during his tenure with both the clubs as a highlight of his career in football.
Aston Villa finished the last term in the 13th position on the league table, which was not a very satisfactory performance, to say the least. This season, they are determined to make it into the top six and hand themselves a chance to make a move back into the top flight.
However, they are well aware of the fact that the road to glory will not be easy and they will need to bring in players like Rhodes to spearhead their attack and get the ball past the opposition team’s goalkeeper as many times as possible.
