Jurgen Klopp’s men are ready to take on Watford in their first game of the season, away from home and they will look for nothing less than all three points, with a strong squad ready to take on the Hornets. The additions of Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson solves a few problems at the club but Liverpool still need their best players to perform at their peaks if they are to have a shot at the title this season.
They are also active in Europe and will have an eye on domestic silverware as well, but for that, Klopp will need his entire squad to stay fit and ready for every game. So who will Liverpool need to be at their best? Here are three players who are most crucial for their success in the upcoming campaign:
Simon Mignolet:
The Belgian shot-stopper was sublime in the previous season and hardly put a foot wrong. Liverpool’s qualification into the Champions League has a lot to do with his form and they will need him to continue his performances from the previous season this campaign as they look to lay their hands on silverware. He is expected to be the first choice and having put the error prone seasons behind him, Mignolet could be one of the most important players for the Reds this season.
Roberto Firmino:
The Brazilian attacker is expected to be the first choice striker for Liverpool as Klopp will go for a false-9 up ahead, like most games last season. Though he was in decent form, Firmino will need to score more than 15 goals, if he is leading the attack for Liverpool as the Reds need such a goal scorer up front, if they are to challenge for the title. The likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are behind Firmino in the pecking order and the former Hoffenheim star should justify his place in the first team.
Jordan Henderson:
The skipper of the side, Henderson missed a fair chunk of the previous season through injury but he is now back fully fit and is expected to be the first choice midfielder for his side this season. He is one of the most exciting midfielders in England and is also the first choice for the country and Liverpool will need him at his best as he is the only player in the squad who can bring such dynamism to the game. He has to stay injury free and at his best if Liverpool are to have any chance of winning any silverware this season.
