Manchester City are by far the heaviest spenders in the Premier League this summer as Pep Guardiola has crossed the £200m mark on spending, for the second time in his 14 month tenure so far at the Etihad. However, his spending seems far from complete as he continues to be linked with some of the finest stars in world football.
City already have one of the most exciting attacks, not just in England but also in Europe but reports claim that they are still looking to add an attacker and two names constantly thrown into the mix are Kylian Mbappe and Alexis Sanchez.
The French teenage sensation has revealed that he wants to quit French outfit AS Monaco this summer and Pep Guardiola has been in contact with the player over a move. He is also scouted by Real Madrid and Liverpool but City might be able to land him before the deadline day.
Chilean international Alexis Sanchez, one of the best playmakers in the world at the moment, is in his final year of his contract at the Emirates and is ready to look for a new club. Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG are all interested in his services but City are determined to land him this summer. So who is a better option for the Citizens?
The likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and David Silva are expected to be the first choice for Pep while the likes of Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus fight for the remaining two spots in the attack. Both Mbappe and Sanchez will walk into one of those spots and can have an immediate impact on the squad, given their quality.
At just 18, Mbappe is a future super star who will cost almost thrice of what Alexis Sanchez will cost City but the Arsenal man is now 28, a full decade older than the French compatriot. This will tilt the balance towards Mbappe.
However, the Monaco starlet has only just risen to the highest stage and is relatively untested at the highest level. He was decent in the Champions League but is yet to play in England and Sanchez’s experience of 103 PL games, 95 Serie A games, 88 La Liga games and 46 Champions League games is something that cannot be ignored.
The Chilean has also already played under Pep Guardiola and will take no time to establish himself in the first team and may even better his incredible stats from the previous season. Mbappe, on the other hand, is a player who will be used sparsely in the first season but can turn into a genuine star at the club in less than a year or two.
It is a tough decision to make but with City looking for immediate results, Sanchez might be a better and safer bet for them this summer.
