David Moyes has got off to a demoralising start to his managerial stint at Sunderland and he will be desperate to turn things around as soon as possible before a familiar feeling of despondency sets in. Moyes at Sunderland could have two outcomes. A beleaguered manager, with two successive failures at Manchester United and Real Sociedad, joins up with a team who have been narrowly avoiding relegation for the last 5 years, a combo which has all the potentials of a disaster. But the chairman has taken a gamble on this appointment by foreseeing the other outcome.
A manager with a solid repute in England courtesy his 11-year stint at Everton, where he was an epitome of solidity and always considered a tough nut to crack coming to a club which needs someone of the exact same profile to restore it to its rightful place. Moyes is still considered as a manager who has all the ingredients to succeed at a club with limited expectations and after his stint at Everton, he will be knowing the dynamics and the complexities of a mid-table club such as Sunderland.
But he has been unfortunate with his to start at Wearside having lost the opening couple of games. And more damagingly missed an opportunity to endear himself to the fans by winning the Tees-Wear derby at such an early stage of the season. But instead, they messed it up by losing the game to the newly promoted Boro. Moyes has acted quickly and has closed in on the signing of £7m valued Vicente Iborra from Sevilla.
The Scot is known to set his teams up in a compact form and looks to break up their opponents play in the midfield and frustrate them by plugging all the gaps. Moyes hopes the addition of the defensive minded midfielder, whom he knows from his time in Spain, will help him do exactly that.
Iborra has played 179 matches in the La Liga and has scored 22 goals and further assisted 7. The midfielder who has played a majority of his games in central midfield is also known to be comfortable in the advanced areas. He is a calm finisher and his threat from indirect set-pieces add to his defensive side of his game. He is good in the air which will hold him good stead in the Premier League. He also gets in good positions to block the ball and his tackling has improved over the years.
The 28-year old midfielder will be a good addition to the Black Cats and Moyes and the fans will hope he has a positive impact soon.
