Crystal Palace survived a hard fought season in the last term, having finished the season on 14th spot in the Premier League. The Eagles are looking to make amends for their mistakes in the last season and make this one better than the last one in terms of results by bringing in players who can be good enough to strengthen their attack in the new season.
The new man in charge at Selhurst Park, Frank De Boer, is one of the highly regarded managers in Netherlands and can use his reputation in order to land some good attackers for the new season. One such player, Luuk de Jong, who is playing in the Dutch Eredivisie, is targeted by the Eagles manager for the summer to boost his attack in this season.
The 26-year-old has been one of the players to shine for the Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the last few years, having featured in 130 matches so far. The centre forward, however, has been far from his prime for the last few seasons and has scored only eight goals in the last season with the former Dutch Eredivisie winning side.
Crystal Palace, who are looking to get a new player in their attacking line-up to partner Christian Benteke and share some of his load, has been much interested in the Dutch player to be brought into the side. De Jong might be used more as a backup striker in the side and there is less chance that he will play in the starting line-up for the Eagles.
However, his last spell in the Premier League was a pretty disastrous one with Newcastle United, which saw him failing to score a single goal in all the games he played for the side. He failed to acclimatise to the conditions in England and exited with his reputation slightly tarnished. The Eagles, who are in dire need of some attacking options for the new season, might look forward to land the 26-year-old striker despite his dismal performance in the last term when he made an appearance in the Premier League.
The player is known for his cool and composed finishing and his ability to take on the opposition defenders while vying for the ball. His physicality being his main weapon, the Dutch striker can also make good runs into the opposition defence and get the ball to hit the back of the net from his lethal shots.
