It seems Barcelona are becoming very impatient after losing Neymar. The Brazilian switched his allegiance to Paris Saint Germain for a world record transfer fee and the Catalans have been digging deep in the transfer market searching for a suitable replacement for the attacker.
Barcelona have been linked with a number of players in a bid to find a successor of Neymar and the latest player to be linked with the Catalans is Thomas Lemar.
The French winger has been the subject of interest from Arsenal as the Gunners saw a number of bids rejected by Monaco for the player. Philippe Coutinho is considered to be the preferred choice for the Catalans but Liverpool’s tough stance on the player has proved to be difficult for them to sidestep.
Jurgen Klopp has maintained his strong stand that the player is not for sale despite receiving a number of lucrative offers for the player. Lemar has been the centre of attraction since the re-emergence of Monaco last season.
The 21-year-old was the centrifugal figure for Monaco last season as the French side romped to the French Ligue 1 title after a long wait of 18 years. Lemar particularly played a very influential part in the last campaign racking up nine goals and 11 assists in the French top tier.
A number of clubs are lining up offers for him but Barcelona’s interest is pretty genuine. Predominantly a left sided attacker, Lemar could be stationed in a number of positions and his deployment could take the pressure off from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
The Catalans have received a hefty amount of money from the Neymar transfer deal and should disburse this pretty carefully. Monaco has been playing hardball over the player’s transfer but know that the Catalan club have the audacity to outpace everyone in the bidding war.
For the last few seasons, Barcelona’s transfer strategy hasn’t really clicked as players like Andre Gomes, Aleix Vidal and Paco Alcacer haven’t really made a mark at Nou Camp.
After having a quiet last season, the Catalans would be pretty determined to get going in this season. Arch rivals Real Madrid are pretty settled as of now compared to Barcelona’s team and Los Blancos will have an advantage once the season starts.
The Catalans are expected to go through a series of changes and Lemar could be the latest entrant at the Nou Camp. The Catalans have only brought in Nelson Semedo from Benfica and Lemar could be the second major signing for them.
