Celtic commenced their 2017-18 Scottish Premiership season in a scintillating manner as they clinched a comprehensive 4-1 win over Hearth of Midlothian. With Leigh Griffiths bagging a brace, Scott Sinclair and Callum McGregor also found the back of the net and took the game away from Hearts with relative ease.
Isma Goncalves’ goal was merely a consolation for the Jambos as the reigning Scottish champions bulldozed past them by putting their class and exuberance on display.
Goals did come handsomely for Brendan Rodgers’ outfit, but considering the hectic schedule that lies ahead for the Glasgow based club, they would need a striker of notable repute.
Their prolific striker in the shape of Moussa Dembele is out until mid September and with Astana due to face the Bhoys in the Champions League qualifiers, it goes without saying that Rodgers would need to beef up his attacking arsenal if they progress further in the elite club competition of Europe.
The Celtic boss, in fact, reiterated his intention of bringing a striker to Celtic Park this summer and thus, another signing might be on the cards. In a scenario like this, the former Liverpool boss might be tempted to prise Lorient’s versatile attacker Abdul Majeed Waris out of Stade de Moustoir.
Waris, who has a price tag of £9million slapped on his collar, was linked heavily with the Hoops a few days back and arguably, it is about time for the Bhoys to put their foot on the accelerator.
The Ghana international is an offensive player of exceptional calibre and although he is predominantly a winger, he can be pencilled up front as a striker as well. He thrives on raw pace and his technical understandings of the game as well as his physical prowess render him very high ratings in the books of the football fraternity.
Besides, his finishing is simply top notch and exemplary and has earned plenty of experience at the club level as well as with his national side.
Celtic’s arch rivals Rangers have been very busy in their recruitments this summer and looking at the team Pedro Caixinha has built, it is evident that the Gers would be a strong contender for the domestic silverwares.
Rodgers can’t afford to be complacent and should look forward to make Waris sign on the dotted line as soon as possible, for amidst the inflation which exists for attackers in the transfer market, he would be an astute addition.
