Lots of money has been invested by the clubs in the Premier League this summer but only a few of the signings will be a hit this season. Some of the most talked about signings in the league could turn out to be failures at their new club and here are three such players who could have such forgettable runs in the upcoming campaign:
Wayne Rooney
The Talismanic England international made a much-anticipated move to his boyhood club Everton from Manchester United. After a lot of struggle at the Old Trafford, he, at last, secured a move which has been in his mind for quite a long.
He had a pretty emphatic start for the Toffees as he found the net in his first game for the Merseyside club with a stunning long ranger. But he will be judged by his form in the season and nobody will remember his heroics in the pre-season.
With a spot in the Three Lions squad up for grabs his future lies on how he performs for the Toffees in the upcoming season. A number of forwards with the likes of Harry Kane are lining up for a role in the England squad and the 31-year-old has a very tough task to cut out.
Alexander Lacazette
The French striker hasn’t performed up to the expectations since his multi-million move to the Emirates Stadium. The North Londoners will be hoping to reclaim a spot in the top four and for that Arsene Wenger needs to stay on his feet to provide the Frenchman with the much-needed ammunition.
Alexis Sanchez has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs and should he leave Arsenal’s campaign would be in dilemma. At 26-year-old Lacazette has all the resources to flourish in the most competitive leagues but fierce competition in the forward position could create an alarming situation for him.
A number of players have found it difficult to cope with the pace and physicality, which might pose a threat to the French forward who has been playing in the Ligue 1 technically much lower than the Premier League.
Alvaro Morata
There has been a tug of war regarding his transfer. He was expected to don the Manchester United jersey but the Red Devils turned their attention to Romelu Lukaku and Morata landed at Chelsea.
But doubts are hovering whether he will be able to match Diego Costa’s quality. The Spaniard was one of the main reasons behind Chelsea’ Premier League triumph last season but has been told he is no more required at the club.
Morata hasn’t been the first choice at Real Madrid last season and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to get the ball talking this season
