Liverpool have not had it easy ever since the end of the previous season as they have failed to land two of their top transfer targets this summer and are now facing the toughest possible fixture in their Champions League qualifier, where they were drawn against German side Hoffenheim.
Jurgen Klopp will want to improve on his defence and midfield before this game in a couple of weeks but reports today claim that he is still looking for attacking talent to complete the squad. This has seen him linked yet again with Brazilian star Luan Vieira this summer.
According to latest reports, Liverpool are now going to fight with Turkish giants Fenerbahce for the services of the 24-year old who is currently at Gremio. Italian side Sampdoria reportedly are also close to landing him in this transfer window so should Liverpool make a move and beat all other clubs to his signature?
A product of the academy at Gremio, the Sao Rio Preto born attacker grew through the ranks at the academy and moved into the first team back in 2014, just a year after he joined the academy. He did not take long to establish himself in the first team and is having a stellar season in the top flight of Brazilian football, where the season is underway.
He has six goals and five assists in 14 games in the Brazilian league and is in top form. A support striker, who can also play on the right wing or as the main striker, Luan is known for his ability to score screamers from long range. His dribbling and passing abilities are what make him hard to contain while his understanding of the game allows him to make space for himself in front of the opposition back line, which gives him a chance to dent the opponents.
Though not strong in the air, he has learnt the art of hold up play while his work rate is what will attract Jurgen Klopp this summer. At just 24, he has already made his international debut for Brazil and has 94 top flight appearances in his home country, making him an established star.
He is yet to move out of Brazil and taste the European challenges but playing for a manager like Jurgen Klopp will make this transition easy for him. But Liverpool have the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke for this role in the squad, leaving Luan with little space in the first team.
He is an exciting addition to the squad at Anfield but Luan is not what Liverpool need at the moment. They are better advised to try and find alternatives to improve their defence and midfield before they go shopping for yet another attacker.
