Manchester City have been a busy club this summer as Pep Guardiola has now spent more than £200m yet again on his squad for the next season. The Citizens have now spent £400m+ in the last couple of transfer windows and have bought some quality players, who are expected to be the first choice next season.
City are currently the team to beat in the Premier League as they have covered all their bases for the next season. They have an exciting squad up their sleeve but who out of the squad could come out as surprise stars for the next season at the Etihad? Here are three Manchester City fringe players, who are expected to have a stellar time at the club next season:
Yaya Toure:
The Ivorian was not expected to be in the plans of the manager last summer but he was one of the most effective players for City last season. And with slightly more balanced squad around him, Toure could be more effective in the middle of the park this summer. At 34, he is not the agilest at the club anymore but he still has the quality that the best in the business only pray for. So surely, if he can impress the manager in the first few games, he could have a surprisingly productive time at the Etihad next season.
Raheem Sterling:
The former Liverpool man had a couple of sparkling fixtures last season but was nowhere near consistent enough to find a place in the first team next season. But he has immense potential which Guardiola will be aware of and the competition in the squad might just push him to turn into a more effective star this season. Sterling is tailor made for Guardiola’s style of play and if given enough time on the field, he could be a surprisingly productive option for the side next season.
Vincent Kompany:
The Belgian international is easily one of the best defenders in the Premier League at the moment but his injury history means that he is no longer the first choice for the Spanish manager. However, he looked sensational in the final few months of the last season and if he can keep himself fit, he will easily establish himself in the first team and can turn into the kind of a defender Pep Guardiola needs at the back, to solve the problems in the squad.
