After three long years, Liverpool are back in the Champions League next season but they have not found everything going for them this summer. Having failed to land two of their top transfer targets in Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk this summer, Liverpool may also be on the verge of losing their Brazil magician Philippe Coutinho.
Catalan giants Barcelona may see their talisman Neymar Jr quit the club to move to French giants PSG in a shocking deal this summer and this will mean that Barcelona will come out with a sensational bid for the former Inter Milan playmaker this summer. Liverpool have already rejected a £90m bid for him, while Barcelona are expected to come back with a £107m soon.
And though Jurgen Klopp maintains that he is not for sale, certain reports suggest that Liverpool are already looking at alternatives for the 25-year old. One such player linked with a move to the club recently is AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar.
The 21-year old French winger has established himself as one of the most exciting attackers in world football after a stellar campaign at the Stade Louis II last season, helping his side to a league title, and he is also wanted by the likes of Arsenal, who want him to replace Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to quit the Emirates this summer.
Known for his pace and dribbling abilities, Lemar is a smart winger, who loves to take on his man, but is also equally adept at cutting in and creating chances for his side. His return of 14 goals and 17 assists across all competitions last season is among the best in Europe and he is surely a star for the future.
His key-pass ratio is also commendable while his ability to strike free-kicks with precision only makes him more valuable. At just 21, he has already mastered the art of hold up play and is just tailor made for the English style of play.
At such a tender age, the former Caen man has five international appearances, 5 Ligue 1 appearances and 12 Champions League appearances, making him an established winger already, and he could be a decent addition to the squad at Anfield.
Philippe Coutinho is a star in the making and one look at his style of play makes it clear that he is right up there with the best in the business. He still has to work on his final output, which is making him a bit weak at the moment but the 25-year old is miles ahead of Lemar at the moment and Liverpool may not be able to replace him with the French star this summer. But do you think Lemar is probably one of the best options for Liverpool to replace Coutinho if he leaves this summer?
