Brighton & Hove Albion are not done with their transfer business. Chris Hughton is navigating the transfer season with a slow and steady approach as he has so far gone for quality signings rather than quantity. Hughton has so far brought in five players but is expected to dig deep in the transfer market.
According to reports, Brighton are considering bringing in Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough. The newly promoted side have already shown their prowess in the transfer market that they are capable of bringing good quality players and this move is a reflection of the same.
Middlesbrough endured a very poor campaign last term but Forshaw was one of the shining lights at the Riverside Stadium. Middlesbrough have plenty of options in the midfield with the likes of Adam Clayton, Marten de Roon, Grant Leadbitter and the addition of Jonny Howson has given Monk a breather before the Championship kick starts this week.
Forshaw came up with a decent display in the middle of the pitch last season and Monk would love to have the player under his fold. On the back of a successful season, he is bound to have a number of suitors and as expected, Brighton have expressed their interest in the player. But Boro are currently one of the title contenders and Monk needs to convince him to stay at the Riverside Stadium at least another year so that they can challenge for promotion next season.
He arrived at the club from Wigan Athletic for a paltry amount of £2m and Monk would like to recoup more than that. Steve Sidwell and Dale Stephens played a pivotal role in Brighton’s excellent campaign as they went on to earn promotion to the Premier League.
But they lack the much-needed cutting edge to maintain their form in the Premier League and Forshaw could be of much help for them. Forshaw’s performance triggered the attention of Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate who has had a pretty good look at the player’ performance last season.
To remain in the contention for an England berth he needs to be in good shape and needs to have regular game time which is looking a bit difficult at this moment. Brighton would be able to provide him with sufficient game time and he could lead the side from the front.
The Seagulls won’t have any problem meeting Boro’s asking price but they are yet to launch an offer for the midfielder.
