Manchester United did not have a good season in the last term as they had to finish in the sixth place in the Premier League, disappointing their fans to a great extent so as to not be a part of the top four in the league table. However, they will still be competing with Europe’s best teams in the UEFA Champions League in the next term as the winners of the Europa League last term.
The Red Devils lacked inspirational performances from a number of their players, who were poised to make a good impression in last year’s campaign. However, they will be looking up to a number of players, new and old, who can bring an element of surprise in the team for the next term with their performances.
Three such players for the former Premier League champions can be-
Luke Shaw-
The English full back, who has been a part of the team since 2014, has been plagued by injuries throughout the last season, which saw him miss almost the entire campaign for the Red Devils, piling up problems for them in the defence. The player has faced a lot of criticism as well from the Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho since his return from injury. However, the player has reportedly recovered from his injury concerns and is ready to hit the pitch, willing to prove a point to the Manchester United fans and coach that he can be a valuable enough player for the team.
Ashley Young-
Another England international, who has been looking to make it into the Manchester United team on a regular basis and has struggled with injuries in the recent past, is the midfielder Ashley Young, playing primarily on the wings for the Red Devils. The 32-year-old player has not done very well in the last season and has been in and out of the team. However, he still has one year left on his contract and will be trying his level best, in case he does not join another team in the Premier League, springing an element of surprise, which might stabilise his career at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial-
The French forward, who burst onto the scene in his first season with the Red Devils and was considered to become one of the players to look out for the future, could not make a great impression in the last season and was restricted to a bits and pieces role in the last season. However, he is expected to regain some of his old form in the forthcoming season.
