It hasn’t been hard to decipher that Scottish Premiership outfit, Celtic have been very keen to sign Manchester City’s appealing prospect, Patrick Roberts, on a permanent basis this summer. Roberts culminated an eighteen-month long loan spell at the Celtic Park at the end of last season and went on to join his parent club, Manchester City, in their pre-season fixtures, but the Celts are still in the race to make him sign on the dotted line.
The Glasgow based club excelled in a scintillating manner in the previous campaign under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers and went on to clinch the domestic treble. One of the notable points which was derived from their spectacularly prolific domestic form was the manner in which Rodgers made a fine use of the young guns he had at his disposal as he gave them the platform to thrive and the license to be themselves and perform at their best.
Roberts was one of them, who blossomed in a fully fledged manner. The 20-year-old played an instrumental role for the Bhoys last season as he piled 47 appearances to his name and banged 11 goals in the process. Although he is out to impress Pep Guardiola for carving a place for himself in his tactical nous in the coming campaign, the plethora of stars which the former Bayern Munich manager has to operate with might stagnate the career of the former Fulham man instead of shaping it.
The Hoops, however, would embrace him with open arms considering the impact he made during his spell with them. Striker Moussa Dembele has been ruled out until the middle of September owing to his injury and with Leigh Griffiths being the only reliable option, the former Liverpool boss is in dire need to beef up his attacking arsenal. However, he is vying for a winger who has the ability to keep the scoreboard ticking in their stride and who can also be pencilled up front, and Roberts certainly fits the bill.
He is one of the hottest prospects in the continent and the English lad showed his calibre time and again for a couple of years now. Roberts is an excellent dribbler with undeniable pace, tries to score goals, create chances for his teammates and his technique and ball controlling abilities are quite exemplary. Having experienced Scottish football for a decent time, the Scottish Premiership champions will be doing themselves a massive favour if they can prise out the youngster from the Etihad Stadium before the transfer window shuts down.
