Celtic registered a bold statement last term as they clinched the Scottish Cup, League Cup and Scottish Premiership title and erected territorial supremacy. The Celts seemingly appeared to be miles ahead of the likes of Aberdeen and Celtic, but then, Brendan Rodgers is eyeing for even more and is keen to uplift the stature of his side in the upcoming season of the Champions League.
However, the former Liverpool boss hasn’t been as busy as his Rangers counterpart has been in terms of beefing up his squad and thus, it is anticipated that a couple of deals or so might be on the cards before the transfer window shuts down. The Bhoys, owing to their commitments in the elite European competition, cannot afford to enter into the new season with a thin squad and their latest target is a shrewd one, whose arrival will automatically uplift the quality of Rodgers’ armoury.
If one of the latest reports is to be believed, the Glasgow giants are keen to bring West Ham United’s out-of-favour attacking midfielder, Robert Snodgrass to the Celtic Park this summer. Snodgrass emerged through the youth ranks of Livingston and was eventually promoted to their senior side. He started to taste English football with Leeds United and inked a name for himself in the good books of the football fraternity and then went on to represent Norwich City, Hull City and West Ham United.
Having moved to the ranks of the Irons in the January transfer window, Snodgrass has struggled to find a place for himself in the starting line-up of Slaven Bilic. Further, his chances are likely to diminish further with the new arrivals in the form of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez and impliedly, he is linked to many clubs, including the Hoops. Last season, the 29-year-old could garner merely 8 starts under Bilic, whilst which he mustered merely 2 assists, but failed to find the back of the net.
He is really versatile as he can play on either wing, central midfield as well as the central attacking midfield slot, is always a threat with set-pieces, loves to cross and contributes defensively as well. Besides, he always tends to make something happen in the final third and has an excellent presence of mind which makes him an appealing commodity. Considering that Celtic will have Champions League on offer apart from domestic superiority, Snodgrass might actually be tempted for the move.
