When Oumar Niasse was lured to the ranks of the Premier League outfit, Everton, for a whopping £13.5million deal by the then manager, Roberto Martinez, from Lokomotiv Moscow in the winter transfer window of 2016, a lot of expectations were cultivated on him. However, Niasse has been completely frozen out under the stewardship of Ronald Koeman and has been told that he has no future with the Toffees.
The Senegalese international was shipped out on loan to Hull City during the second half of last season but with merely 4 goals and an assist to his name in 17 appearances for the Tigers in the English top flight, he has apparently failed to impress Koeman. His move to the Goodison Park hasn’t transpired in the manner in which it was expected and thus, a move in the ongoing summer transfer window seems to be on the cards for Niasse, who would himself want to refrain from stagnating himself.
Reports have surfaced of late that fellow Premier League outfits in the shapes of Newcastle United, Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion are very keen to make him sign on the dotted line, with Everton looking to accumulate at least £10million for the forward. In this scenario, the interest from the Magpies, in particular, makes a lot of sense. Rafael Benitez hasn’t bolstered his attacking arsenal to a considerable extent this summer and Niasse could be a decent buy for them.
Newcastle United carved an immediate return to the top flight in the most convincing manner. The Toon, under the tutelage of the former Napoli boss, were consistent and clinched the Championship silverware, which impliedly guaranteed an automatic promotion. Benitez would want to keep their status intact of being a Premier League side and to do the same, bagging someone who has the taste of the animosity which it offers would be a no brainer.
The 27-year-old is a very strong player in terms of his physicality, is relatively quick and has the tendency to take on the defenders. He dribbles really well and has a knack to pass the ball around up front and in this process, he brings his teammates into the equation. Niasse has a good sense of positional awareness, is clinical and toils relentlessly and by making a move to St. James’ Park, he would have the opportunity to give a fresh start to his career after a nightmarish spell with Everton.
