Scottish Premiership outfit, Rangers have been very busy this summer and have made a handful of signings in order to ensure that they enter the upcoming season as a well-equipped side. Despite the introductions of new faces at the Ibrox Stadium, pressure started to mount on Pedro Caixinha after their exit from the Europa League.
The Gers were outclassed by Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn and the voices of concern did start to emerge from many corners against Caixinha. However, the Glasgow based club are settling down and the players have indeed started to gel together as a unit and their latest 2-1 win over Premier League side, Watford is a testament to the same. Here are three talking points from their win over the Hornets.
Defence Looked Sorted With Bruno Alves
The Light Blues were in dire need of a veteran defender like Bruno Alves, for the influence he is carving on the back line is simply exemplary. The Portuguese international formed an excellent partnership with Fabio Cardoso at the heart of Rangers’ defence and their resilience gave the licence to the midfielders to operate without worrying much about leaking goals. Alves was the guardian at the back and with the psychological advantage he rendered by overseeing and marshalling his fellow defenders enabled others to express themselves on the pitch in a better manner.
Not Just Words From Waghorn
Recently, Martyn Waghorn reiterated the fact that there would indeed be competition for places in the starting line-up next season and also that he would fight for earning the vote of confidence of the former Al-Gharafa boss. Against Marco Silva’s men, his actions did the talking as the 28-year-old banged a late winner to turn the tables in favour of his employers. Waghorn did look quite sharp during the outing and frankly speaking, the Teddy Bears would be eager to see him carrying such a hard working attitude in the upcoming term as well.
The Winning Mentality Was Evident
Rangers didn’t wither away into the clutches of cluelessness late in the second half. Caixinha’s men kept vouching for goal scoring opportunities and it was indeed relishing seeing Alfredo Morelos creating two chances as well. Their late strike doesn’t only reflect upon the winning mentality they have started to manoeuvre but throughout the game, Caixinha’s men did show time and again that they are also physically ready to aim for better outputs in the days to come.
