Chelsea have made their biggest signing this season in the form of Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, whom they bagged from the defending champions of the Champions League Real Madrid. This being one of their most significant signing of the season to make their attack one of the best for the next term, the Blues are eyeing a backup striker for the next season and they have got a number of options in their view.
One player, who has been on the top of the target list for the West London club for quite some time now is the Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, currently playing for fellow Premier League club Swansea City. The Blues approached the Welsh club to bag the player for the new season, but found them uninterested at that time, with the Swans battling for their survival in the Premier League.
The player demonstrated skills of the highest class and scored 15 goals throughout the season for the Swans in their last campaign, contributing largely in saving them from relegation and finishing on the 15th spot on the League table. That has irked interest from the defending champions of the Premier League to rope in the player for the next season and include some quality cover for their young Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, whom they procured for a whopping £70 million, setting a new transfer record for the club.
Antonio Conte, the current man in charge at Stamford Bridge is aware of the fact that it is quite imperative to get a player in the team who can play the second fiddle in the striking position throughout the next season and the 32-year-old Spaniard can perfectly fit the bill for him in leading their attack as a backup marksman.
The Italian has already let go of his spearhead in attack from the last season, Diego Costa, who is set to make a move to either the Chinese Super League or to the Spanish La Liga to join his former club Atletico Madrid and has got Alvaro Morata in his place to lead the attack. He has also got the luxury of using the young Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi as a back-up, however, is depending on the experience of the veteran Spanish international Fernando Llorente for the next term.
Llorente, the ex-Sevilla striker, played under the coaching of the current Chelsea manager Conte during his regime at the Italian Serie A club Juventus and might be quite delighted to become the part of his team once again in the next term.
