Newcastle United have parted ways with Daryl Murphy after just a year of buying him from Ipswich Town. The club who have decided to sign the veteran on a 3-year deal is Nottingham Forest. The 34-year-old has been initially one of the main men in the strike force for the Magpies in the last season, however, he had fallen down the pecking order, as the Spaniard has been eyeing some young prospects in the summer transfer window to be brought into the club for the next term.
The Nottingham Forest side has been eyeing a new striker for the new season, as they already had to let go of their mainstay in the attack, Britt Assombalonga, who joined Middlesbrough for £15 million in the summer. The Championship side is hopeful that the veteran striker, who has a good experience of playing for a number of clubs in the last few seasons, will bring variety in their attack and can make the season a good one for them in the next term.
The Irish international joined Newcastle in the last term but was not able to make it into the first team many times. This reportedly made the player make the decision about heading out of the club and will look to continue his fine goal scoring form in the Championship after impressive stints at various clubs with the most prominent being with Ipswich Town.
The 34-year-old made 34 appearances for the Magpies in the last season and went on to score 6 goals in them for the club. However, that has been not enough to satisfy the current manager Rafa Benitez, who is eyeing some top class players to revamp his squad for the next season, to make it a good one in terms of results for them as they face some of the biggest clubs in English football including the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and defending champions Chelsea.
Murphy is known to have vast experience while playing for the clubs like Ipswich Town and Sunderland. He made 225 appearances for the Tractor Boys during his illustrious career in the Championship and scored 67 goals for them. He is also known to be a team man, which is pretty evident from his record of 32 assists that he made during his stay at Ipswich Town, making his teammates score crucial goals for his side.
