Hull City are looking ready to start their life in the Championship after being relegated from the top flight last term. The Tigers had to let go of quite a few of their players including the mainstay at the heart of their defence, Harry Maguire, who joined Leicester City. As a result, they are eyeing a player who can be brought in as a potential replacement for the English international.
Reportedly, the Tigers are looking to bring in Englishman Matthew Pennigton from Everton in order to strengthen their defence for the next season. Without Maguire at the Heart of their backline, it can be disastrous for them, as they are deciding to make a move for the Englishman to replace his compatriot.
Pennington, despite his good display in the defence for the Merseyside club over the last few seasons, has not been able to find a place in the starting line-up for the Toffees. He just made 11 appearances in the last term, which is evident of the fact that he might remain heavily underused in case he stays back at Goodison Park for the forthcoming season.
The 22-year old has been one of the players to be loaned out and played for the Championship side Coventry City. He made 25 appearances for the club and played a pivotal role in marshalling the defence for the Rams. He has also played crucial roles in the backline for clubs like Tranmere Rovers and Walsall, thus being quite experienced in facing teams from the Second tier.
However, Hull are set to face stiff competition from Leeds United in the transfer market and need to ensure they have the upper hand by making a the first bid for the starlet. It goes without saying that the move is important for Hull City, with a player like Pennington having a towering presence in the heart of their defence for the next term.
Pennington, apart from his presence in the heart of the defence, is known for providing strength to the backline and keeping the opposition strikers at bay. He also has the capability to clear the ball effectively and make clean tackles to dispossess the opposition players off the ball.
The English youngster has been eyed by the new Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky for quite a long time, and he wants him to be added to the roster for the next season, leaving Everton, where he has been kept out of the line-up for a long time.
