Swansea City are interested in Las Palmas attacker Jonathan Viera. Currently, Gylfi Sigurdsson is attracting a lot of interest and might not be a Swansea player next season. So if the Icelandic playmaker does leave, Viera could be his replacement.
The Swans recently brought in Roque Mesa from the Spanish club and both the clubs discussed a potential move for the Spanish winger. The Wales club saw their initial offer of £21m knocked back as the club have been holding out for a higher fee.
The Spanish club have been pretty firm on their stand as they have been demanding a fee in the range of £26m which is his release clause. They are ready to part ways with the player but only if their asking price is met.
Viera’s versatility also attracted the interest of Everton who have been chasing Swansea’s midfield star Sigurdsson. Ronald Koeman is very keen to add a creative player having already signed Davy Klaassen from Ajax. The uncertainty over Ross Barkley’s future has frustrated Koeman but he wants to be ready for all possible consequences.
Swansea are very reluctant to meet the demand of the Spanish club. Having already roped in a host of players, Clement will be a bit concerned about his transfer budget and needs to ensure that they don’t overspend it.
Viera is mainly a left winger but is comfortable in playing on both the flanks and can be equally effective from just behind the striker. So, his playing style mirrors Sigurdsson and if the 27-year-old does depart, Viera could be an instant replacement.
The Toffees are very interested in bringing Sigurdsson to Goodison Park but the Swans are playing hardball over his move. A bid in the region of £40m got rejected by Clement as the gaffer is looking for something between £45-50m for the player.
It remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club prefers to go with an improved offer or not and Swansea are assessing every possible option. The Welsh side are doing their best to keep the player at the club and are even ready to break the wage structure for him.
Viera netted seven goals and created as many in the last campaign, helping his team to a decent 14th finish in the La Liga last season. It might be too soon but the Spaniard could be the fifth entrant at the Liberty Stadium this summer.
