If the latest reports are to be believed, Wolverhampton Wanderers are marauding forward to lure Chelsea’s youngster Kenneth Omeruo to the Molineux Stadium during the summer in order to beef up their defensive armoury. It is seemingly unlikely that we could see Antonio Conte let Omeruo ply his trade under his tutelage next season in the Premier League and no wonder why a move away from the Stamford Bridge is being negotiated upon by the aforesaid two club for a transfer fee which would possibly be in the vicinity of £3million.
Chelsea might have truckloads of assets in their books, but the harsh reality is that hardly any one of them would be given the vote of confidence to play in the blue shirt. It is apparent under utilisation of the prospects they possess in their arsenal on a regular basis.
The London based outfit have been questioned for quite some time now for not entrusting the young guns with adequate confidence, not making adequate use of the resources they have at their disposal or giving them the pedestal to launch ahead in their career and someone like Omeruo is one of the latest testaments to such a perception. In such a scenario, the Wolves can manoeuvre a masterstroke.
Omeruo emerged through the youth ranks of Hard Foundation and Standard Liege, before the Blues signed him in 2012. The promising starlet mustered productive loan spells with ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa and last season, he registered a decent season on loan with the Turkish outfit Alanyaspor.
The 23-year-old garnered 26 appearances to his name in the Super Lig, whilst which he cultivated 1.5 tackles, 2.2 interceptions, 4.4 clearances and 0.8 blocks per game on an average, as a result of which his stocks have risen massively amongst the football fraternity.
Having failed to ink a single league appearance for the Blues ever since joining the club, it is about time for the Nigerian international to move on to new pastures with a permanent move rather than being shipped out on loan yet again.
Predominantly a central defender, Omeruo can be stationed in the central defensive midfield slot as well. He is tall, well built, likes to play long balls and tackling is unarguably one of his strongest suits.
Besides, despite his young age, he has shown enormous maturity and confidence and after the acquisition of three central defenders in the shapes of Roderick Miranda, Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett, Nuno Espirito Santo will have his defence sorted if he manages to make the deal cross the line.
