Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Belgian League forward Moses Simon as Jurgen Klopp continues strengthening his attack in the ongoing summer season. The Nigerian international has caught the attention of numerous European clubs with his impactful displays.
The Reds still have their eyes fixed on attacking reinforcements with no sign of defensive targets coming out of the rumour mill yet. Klopp’s side finished fourth in the Premier League last season, meaning they play in the Champions League next season. And the German boss seems to have plans of changing their only attacking philosophy to ultra-attacking as the stakes rise.
Liverpool have already brought in centre-forward Dominic Solanke and right winger Mohamed Salah. And while the former Serie A man comes as the perfect competition to Sadio Mane on the right wing, Solanke’s arrival has been clouded with questions about his place in the side. In Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, Solanke’s place in the Liverpool squad has been subject to debate.
And Simon’s arrival is bound to face a similar effect. Liverpool already have the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana, who could do wonders from the left flank, which makes him no better than a plan B or even C in Anfield. Reportedly, Liverpool could expect to secure his services for something in the region of £13 million.
However, it would only be possible if other Premier League clubs like Tottenham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion, don’t decide to step up their interest in him. Newly-promoted side Brighton & Hove Albion have already seen their £8.4 million bid for the winger rejected and we don’t expect them to improve their bid for the asking price of Gent.
The forward turned 22 this week and is boiling with the speed and trickery. His technical superiority blended with that makes him immensely versatile up front as he can play in the centre-forward position as well. His persistence and brilliant anticipation of the ball makes him a shadowy striker as well.
In the 38 appearances, he managed last season in all competition for Gent, the player scored five times registering five assists. Not the most prolific of goal scorers yet, but the player brings in tremendous urgency in the attacking third getting involved in almost all crucial movements.
He was one of the star players when Gent defeated Spurs in the Europa League last season. However, Liverpool will surely take their time in sorting things out as indicated by Klopp. Following Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Tranmere Rovers, he said, “If any fans think, ‘what are the other teams doing and why are we not doing anything’, I can’t help. Sorry,”
