AC Milan have finally settled the much-disputed signing of their young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has agreed to a new four-year deal to stay back with the Rossoneri. The club had declared in a press conference recently that the 18-year-old had turned down their offer to sign a new deal with them and was there to stay at the San Siro for just one more season, with his previous contract ending in 2018.
The Italian livewire, who is the youngest ever goalkeeper to succeed the legendary shot-stopper for the Azzurri, Gianluigi Buffon, was linked with a number of clubs in the interim, one of them being the current European Champions Real Madrid, who are looking to replace their current man beneath the crossbar, Keylor Navas, for the next term. Though no contact was made officially, it was understood that the Galacticos will be bagging the young goalkeeper from AC Milan to fill in for their Costa Rican ace.
Reportedly, the player has been tied down by AC Milan on a deal which is worth £3 million, including a release clause which is in excess of £67 million, or less if the Rossoneri can’t qualify for the Champions League.
However, now that the deal for Donnarumma is off the table, a plethora of names have been linked with the Galacticos, of which three might come up as potential replacements for Navas in the goal of the defending Spanish La Liga champions-
David De Gea-
The Spanish international has been the shot stopper who has been linked the most with the Galacticos since his brilliant display for Manchester United in the last term and in the one before that as well. In fact, the player was in for a transfer last summer to the European champions, which did not materialise due to a last minute glitch. However, the Spaniard looks to be the perfect alternative for Zinedine Zidane to replace Navas between the sticks.
Thibaut Courtois-
The Chelsea goalkeeper has been another one who has been eyed by the Spanish champions in the summer, and the deal has a big possibility to happen in the next season. However, the Blues might not be looking to let go of their custodian in the next season.
Jan Oblak-
Though there is a minimal possibility of the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper of joining their city rivals in the next season, Real Madrid can use their spending power to get the player worth £86 million in the summer. The 24-year-old is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers and can perfectly fit the bill for Zidane.
