Everton have surely caught the attention of European football with their string of transfer arrivals over the past month. Ronald Koeman has surely shown his intention of taking the challenge right to the top sides and despite failing to retain their star striker, the manager doesn’t look really bothered by it.
After Tottenham Hotspur have established themselves as a potential title challenger over the past two seasons, it is now Everton’s turn to do that. And here are three reasons why they could do it next season itself.
A daunting attacking Front
Even with Romelu Lukaku gone to Manchester United and Ross Barkley most likely to follow a similar path in the next few weeks, Everton still look like a dangerous side now that can spearhead into the strongest of defences.
Koeman wasted no time in getting Davy Klaassen from Dutch giants AFC Ajax and just how brilliant a buy it is would be known in the first few weeks of the season itself. The young playmaker has caught the eyes of some of the top clubs across Europe with his phenomenal ability to find key passes. And with the likes of Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney ahead of him, he could be petrifying for Everton.
Everton’s attacking four players- Mirallas, Ramirez, Klassen and Rooney- specialises in immense fluidity. They can interchange positions with ease and although it might take some time to get executed properly, it is bound to work wonders once ready.
The return of Wayne Rooney
While it may seem to many that Rooney has gone well past his prime with all the rage and poaching instinct lost, this new move could surely give him the purpose. Apart from the burning desire to represent England in the World Cup for one last time, Rooney will definitely find his renewed life at Everton refreshing.
The Premier League legend has won it all for Manchester United and a stagnancy had seeped into him at Old Trafford for sure. Goodison Park remains his last major move and he would do all he can to make it memorable.
Finally, a quality goalie
One thing common among all the top sides challenging for the title is their goalkeeper. Barring Liverpool, who have two inconsistent options in Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, all the other sides have some of the finest pairs of hands under the bar. While Manchester City and Everton will compete with comparatively younger options, their talent is undeniable.
Jordan Pickford comes on the back of some brilliant displays from his previous season with Sunderland. His reflexes and ball distribution has been hugely acclaimed.
